An undergraduate degree in Printmaking at RISD supports the creative development of artists dedicated to visual exploration and expression using intaglio, lithography, screenprint, relief and related photo-processes. As a Printmaking major, you will explore a focused personal direction as you learn to master both traditional and contemporary techniques, including digital and alternative print methods. In the first year of the program, you will be introduced to the basic forms of printmaking — intaglio, lithography and silkscreen. As a junior, you will continue to hone your conceptual, critical and printmaking skills through a number of Printmaking electives or studios in related disciplines such as Illustration, Textiles and Photography. During the final year, you will work more independently to develop your own visual vocabulary and create a final Degree Project — a body of work that demonstrates your technical strengths and conceptual depth.
